Break The Loop

Distraction is when you purposely focus on something else to help you deal with the gender dysphoria. (La distracción es cuando te enfocas a propósito en otra cosa para ayudarte a manejar la disforia de género.) There are two types of distraction: Active (breaking the loop) and passive (zone out time).

Breaking the loop means doing something that needs all of your attention and involvement. (“Breaking the loop” significa hacer algo que necesita toda tu atención y participación.) It can be anything you enjoy and find interesting, like taking a walk, reading a book, playing video games, or doing a hobby. The important thing is to pick an activity that you really like and that captures your attention. (Lo importante es escoger una actividad que realmente te guste y que capture tu atención.) That way, you can fully enjoy it and forget about the gender dysphoria for a bit.

Here are some examples of break the loop: (Aquí tienes algunos ejemplos de “break the loop”:)

  • Doing something creative: Drawing, journaling, making music, crafting, or baking
  • Moving your body: Going for a walk, stretching, dancing, biking, skateboarding
  • Getting into a game or activity: Playing video games, solving a puzzle, learning a magic trick, or doing a challenge with a friend
  • Helping someone else or completing a task: Walking a pet, doing chores, running an errand, or making something for someone
  • Combo: Try combining activities you enjoy such as dancing while you bake!

  • Hacer algo creativo: dibujar, escribir en tu diario, hacer música, manualidades o repostería
  • Mover tu cuerpo: salir a caminar, estirarte, bailar, andar en bici, patinar
  • Meterte en un juego o actividad: jugar videojuegos, resolver un rompecabezas, aprender un truco de magia, o hacer un reto con un/o/a/e amigo/a/e
  • Ayudar a otra persona o completar una tarea: pasear a una mascota, hacer quehaceres, hacer un mandado, o crear algo para alguien
  • Combinado: intenta combinar actividades que disfrutes, ¡como bailar mientras horneas!
