Our Definition Of Gender Dysphoria
What is gender dysphoria!?
- Our definition of gender dysphoria is the feeling or experience of incongruence, dissonance, distress and/or disconnection between your gender and body, appearance, or gender role.
- Gender dysphoria can vary in frequency and intensity. It can occur in private or in public and can start at any point in your life.
Basically, what we are saying is that if you feel distressed about your body, how people see your gender, or any other aspect of your gender identity, this program can help you!
Gender dysphoria can have different parts, like feeling uncomfortable with how others treat you because of your gender, being unhappy with your body, or experiencing worry, anxiety, or sadness related to your gender. Each person’s experience of gender dysphoria is unique and valid.

It’s important to remember that you can’t fully separate things like racism, ableism, fatphobia, or other types of discrimination from your experiences of gender dysphoria. Instead of trying to keep them apart, it can be helpful to think about how these things might affect how you feel. As you go through this module, think about how your other identities might shape your experiences of gender dysphoria.
